Nainital is certainly the most popular hill station not among Indians but with foreigners also. Nainital is also known for its lovely climate and mind blowing surroundings. Nainital is located in a valley containing a eye shaped lake, approximately two miles in circumference, and surrounded by mountains, of which the highest are Naina (8,579 ft) on the north, Deopatha (7,999 ft) on the west, and Ayarpatha (7,474 ft) on the south. Besides one of the top tourist destination, Nainital is also regarded as one of the 64 'Shakti Peeths'. It is believed that when grief stricken Lord Shiva was carrying Sati's body and one of her eyes fell here for Nainital Lake is shaped like an eye and the town has got its name from the combination of Nain (eye) and Tal (lake).
